April Art Attack! Must Read Blog: TRYHARDER

April 9, 2009

TRYHARDER
An LA-based, but not always LA-specific, art blog. Centers on gallery show opening photos and reviews, art news, artist features and events. Connects the coasts and the world, while trying to make art reviewing fun.

In my opinion, TRYHARDER is one of my favorite art blogs. It’s a peek into the art scene right now–literally at this moment. Pictures of gallery openings and artwork are uploaded all the time. After seeing some questionable artwork in various pictures, I wondered if the title was a bit ironic. Here’s what TRYHARDER had to say in response:

I’m an artist; the title comes from a series of works I was producing about two years ago. Yes, those pieces were quite ironic, but from there I’ve created a new series called “this is contemporary” that is a meta-commentary on contemporary art practice in this global, incestuous, MFA-hungry art climate. Similarly, the blog/site TRYHARDER uses the play on words as a commentary on art practice, but the name isn’t specifically directed at the works posted (though it may sometimes apply to them). Any connotations the blog’s name evokes for readers makes it even more apt and part of an overall commentary/critique on contemporary art.
