Open Studio 23 – Day 1 of 2
June 2, 2007Here’s what the space looked like this afternoon:

What a great day! I had a lot of great visitors who gave me great feedback. I obviously got questions regarding technical issues like, “how the hell did you do that” or “who takes the picture”. I’m very used to answering those kinds of questions. I was very happy to get a lot of feedback regarding the conceptual issues and meanings of the work. It’s very rewarding to know that my art gets people talking about Things—fashion, identity, advertising, etc. My work is not ‘pretty’ and requires the viewer to approach the work in a different fashion, than say, he/she would have when choosing wallpaper. Its a success to have people really Look at my art.
On the flip side, visitors just had a blast! The best part was hearing all the laughter. I made people LOL today! Comedy is a difficult thing to achieve and it’s absolutely amazing to know that I can make people laugh—or at least my art can. It’s totally great to know that the fun I have in creating my work shines through. The most important thing for me, as an artist, is to have fun (Ooo, secret number three of the mystery that is Jeffrey Augustine Songco…).
It is an exhausting process to interact with visitors and I loved every second of it–but man, am I beat. I’m excited for tomorrow. The Bushwick Open Studios and Arts Festival 2007 rules!
they are TWINS,
that is WHY =P
awesome Jeff, your open studio looks aMAZING!
Good luck on day 2!
[...] Also, thanks to the instantaneous nature of the blogosphere, there are two other blog posts already online about the Bushwick Open Studios…one by a visitor five and a half and one by an artist, Jeffrey Augustine Songco’s blog, [...]
Jeff -
Wow, your studio looks incredible!! I’m so sorry I wasn’t able to come by and see it for real – running this beast ate all of my time and more this weekend. But thanks for your email, and I’m super psyched that you had such a great experience.
Looking forward to meeting you in person and seeing your studio next time around!
